Charcoal Monoprint
The series of hanging men were created by pushing charcoal through a photographic stencil on a screen. The charcoal goes through the screen and is patted on the surface of the paper. Because it is not rubbed into the paper, the charcoal sits on the surface. After being displayed, the charcoal drops off the paper, and after a few weeks, little trace of the original image is left. I was interested in the idea of the temporary and easily destroyed medium and how it coincides with the image portrayed. These men, along with their story, were forgotten and their identities were erased. They are only dust now, swept away by time.
