Day 2, the Red Slug / Original Painting made with Handmade Watercolor, a Bee, 24k Gold Leaf, Broken Glass, and Charcoal

$100.00

This piece was made out of handmade watercolors that I made out of my grandmother’s crushed antique jewelry. The black is charcoal that I harvested and made into an ink. A bee rests under the 24k gold leaf sun and gold runs throughout the slug. It is framed in an oval antique frame. The frame is plastic. But it has antique charm. It has been modified to fit away from the painting, so the textured surface isn’t touching the glass. Approximately 5’’x6’’.

Day 2, the Red Slug: I crossed paths with a slug yesterday, which made me think of the Mount Kaputar pink slug in Australia. They are huge, bright pink, endangered, and their habitat was ravaged by the bush fires. Some were able to retreat to the soil. When it was safe, they emerged from the ashes. I made this piece with my handmade watercolor and the black in it is an ink I made out of ash. The sun is made out of a bee, stars, and 24k gold leaf. Chunks of charcoal follow the slug to imply it’s the emergence from the ashes.
